Device Manager is a built-in program that catalogs all hardware devices associated with your Windows computer or laptop. Usually, you can access it from within the Windows Control Panel. Examples of hardware include built-in USB drives, your keyboard and mouse, game controllers, network adapters, printers, and more.

You can open Command Prompt by searching for ‘cmd‘ or ‘command prompt’ in the Start Menu or typing ‘cmd’ from the Run box. Type “devmgmt.msc” in the Command Prompt console after opening. Press Enter to run the command and launch the device manager.
How to Open Device Manager in Windows 8 and 8.1
In Windows 8, you can also open Device Manager using the Start Button and Control Panel.
Use the Start Button
Navigate to the extreme left at the bottom of your screen. You should be able to see a miniature version of the start screen there.
Right-click on the minimized start screen and select Device Manager.
Quick tip
A common way to open Device Manager in all three versions is through running the console.
Press the Windows logo + R together. Now the Run console is open.
Type “devmgmt.msc” and press the Enter key. The Device Manager opens directly.
